Late Season Wild Mushrooms: Forage in the Forest

Have you caught mushroom hunting fever? Learn more on this fungal foray!

Join Gradey for an in-depth exploration of mushroom hunting in the Pacific Northwest. This outing is timed to land us between the mushroom seasons — catching the end of the fall season with lobsters and chanterelles as well as the beginning of winter mushrooms with some choice edibles like hedgehogs. We’ll venture into the forest to cover fungal identification, safety concerns when foraging, and how to find delicious mushrooms, all with sustainability and environmental ethics in mind. The role that fungi play in the forest ecosystem will be highlighted, and of course we’ll talk all about how to prepare your edible treasures in the most delicious ways possible. We’ll roam the woods together looking for delectable mushrooms to take home, and with luck, our baskets will get filled! You’ll go home with your fungal finds, a special mushroom gift, and informative handouts to help you continue your learning process on your future mushroom forays.

Mushroom novices are welcome, as are folks who have foraged before! This class will happen rain or shine. Carpool will meet in SE Portland.

Cost is $90, sliding scale available. Registration required by October 22.
