Starting with an ecological or permaculture approach, Gradey will explore garden design with an herbalist’s eye. We’ll discuss some basics of reading the landscape, from understanding soil to gleaning ecosystem knowledge from the existing weeds. From there we will venture into micro-climates, either creating them or recognizing unique places in the landscape. We will go through some medicinal plant communities — an ecological take on companion plants — and see how each plant’s special adaptations can allow them to thrive in your garden.
This class will utilize the Zoom platform. To prepare, you can download the free Zoom app. If you’re new to Zoom, you may want to check out their support and training resources beforehand in order to ensure a smooth experience.
Class cost is $20-$30, sliding scale.
