On this wintry walk with Gradey, we will learn to ID perennial plants based on their skeletal remains. Noting the arrangement of leaves, branching and flowering pattern, and with perhaps a few lingering seeds we can find clues as to who those ghosts may be. We will also keep an eye out for winter annuals that emerge in late fall and grow slowly through the coldest season to bloom at the first sign of spring. Our plant identification tools will inspire us to keep coming back to see what the plants can teach in all their presentations!
We will meet at the Powell Butte Visitor Center. This walk is pay-what-you-will — you are welcome to attend for free, or you’re welcome to offer $1-$30 in appreciation. No registration required.
Dress for the weather! We’ll be walking rain or shine. Please check our facebook page for updates if the weather conditions are dangerous (icy or very snowy).
