Join Gradey for Bark’s free monthly hike as we explore timber sales of today and yesterday. In short, groundtruthing is the act of visiting and surveying a proposed timber sale on public land to see if logging will improve a forest ecosystem (spoiler alert: it doesn’t!). For us on the ground, groundtruthing means visiting a threatened place time and time again. It means learning so how things really work in an ecosystem. It means falling in love with place. It means finding a way to give back. Sometimes you win the battle to save a forest and other times your heart is broken, but always you will find ways to connect to these unique places. This is building relationship, developing a sense of place. These are some of the topics Gradey will explore after nearly 20 years of doing this work.
This free monthly hike is through the watchdog group of Mt. Hood, Bark. Visit their website to learn more about this hike and the work they do to protect Mt Hood National Forest.
