Herbal Self Care Series: Autumn

  • The Arctos School of Herbal and Botanical Studies Portland, OR (map)

Herbalism is rich in tools that we can integrate into our lives to support emotional and physical well being, and these tools can be used by all of us with some basic and empowering education. Join Missy for a 4-week, hands-on exploration of medicinal plants for self care: where to get them, when to use them, and how to make amazing herbal remedies with them.

Our Autumn cycle will go in-depth with tonics for stress and anxiety; adaptogens for resilience; herbs for deep and restful sleep; and plant allies for grief, sadness, and overwhelm. We’ll go deep with a few healing herbs each session, covering indications, contraindications, and important medicine-making concerns. Herbalism doesn’t stand alone, and we’ll also cover lifestyle and dietary shifts that can be part of an herbal support plan for each topic. Students will pick up a goodie bag of herbal ingredients in SE Portland before each class so that we can make plant medicine together. Those new to herbalism are welcome, as are herbalists with some experience under their belt.

We will be offering a complementary self-care series this winter — a continuation, of sorts — expanding the topics to include uplifting herbs for dark days, immune support, calming remedies for anxiety, and plants to engage and enrich sensuality.

This interactive, hands-on class will utilize the Zoom platform. To prepare, you can download the free Zoom app. If you’re new to Zoom, check out their support and training resources beforehand in order to ensure a smooth experience.

Cost for four weeks of class is $175-$225, sliding scale, and includes all herbal ingredients for medicine making. There is a modest scholarship available to BIPOC (Black people, Indigenous people, & people of color) students; please inquire for details.
