Magical Wildflowers & Medicinal Weeds

  • The Arctos School of Herbal and Botanical Studies Portland, OR (map)

Join Gradey and Missy as we explore the connections of spring, emergence, and flow through April. During peak vernal bloom, we’ll dive deeply into the flower, learning tools and language to accurately identify each new plant friend. We’ll see a diversity of floral form on our trips to two vastly different ecosystems as we solidify our new botanical skills and demystify field guide lingo.

This emergence of the green signals a perfect time to focus on flow in our bodies. How do we optimize digestion, assist the liver, and support our bodies through the transition into longer, warmer days? How do we nurture ourselves using what’s abundant and nourishing? We’ll focus on using weeds as medicine, considering the implications of working with introduced plants and discussing what sustainability means in the context of herbalism. The medicines we make together will focus on minerals and magic.

This 4-week course is part of the Saturday Herbalism Mini-Series. Each intensive includes two full-day field trips led by Gradey Proctor and two online classroom days taught by Missy Rohs, for a combination of nature immersion, hands-on medicine-making, lecture, discussion, and sensory learning.

Students can choose to sign up for as many mini-series as they like, delving into different focus topics throughout the year. Each block of classes is deeply seasonal, centering us with a sense of place and a knowledge of our bodies through the cycles of the year. Go to the Saturday Herbalism Mini-Series page for registration, pricing, and more.
