Tincture-Making Intensive: In-Person Class

  • The Arctos School of Herbal and Botanical Studies Portland, OR (map)

Whether you’re new to making herbal tinctures or you’ve got some experience (but still have questions!), this class is for you. Missy will guide participants through making three different types of tinctures, diving deeply into an herbalist’s understanding of chemical constituents and what influence they have in our medicine-making. When should we use a high-alcohol menstruum? When is a low-alcohol menstruum appropriate? What the heck is a menstruum? How does the folk method differ from weight-to-volume? Why are there ratios on tinctures? Bring all the questions you’ve been wanting to ask about herbal tinctures, and we’ll address each of them!

This workshop is full of hands-on experience, detailed step-by-step handouts, and practical skills. In addition to the three tinctures that we make as a group, students will also strain a tincture together and go over handouts on specialized extrtaction processes for unusual cases such as medicinal mushroom double-extraction. For this unique class, all materials will be provided, and students will each come away with four two-ounce bottles of tincture (a $96 value) and plentiful reference materials for future tincture-making.

Class will be held indoors in the instructor’s home. Participants must show proof of vaccination and booster to register. Class size is very limited to keep the experience hands-on and covid-safe.

Class cost is $90-$120, sliding scale, plus a $30 materials fee. Included in the cost are all plant material, menstruum, handouts, and bottles of tincture for your home medicinary. Registration is required by March 21.
