Join Missy & Gradey as we delve into the medicines and practices of the season. Our in-person, outdoor classes will look for the clues available even in the depths of winter: How can we identify a tree by its bark and buds? What do the trees and shrubs tell us about the landscape? How do the patterns that emerge guide our practices as herbalists and people who seek relationship with place? We will wildcraft where appropriate and tend where we can, discussing ethics and reciprocity along the way.
Our classroom days, held via Zoom, will address the health concerns of the dark months: We’ll talk about herbs immune support and warmth, examining how to choose the right remedy for each condition. In the kitchen, we’ll get hands-on, learning how to make fresh-plant tinctures, effective teas, and tasty remedies for the whole household. Students will make medicine using herbs foraged in the field or provided by Arctos, getting a hands-on and embodied experience of each plant medicine.
The class is part of the Saturday Herbalism Mini-Series. For more information, click here! The total cost of Winter Wellness, Winter Wildcrafting is $390, and includes all herbal material for medicine-making. Discounts are available if registering for other SHMS classes, and there is a modest scholarship available to BIPOC. Inquire for details.
This course is a hybrid course, with half the days outdoors and in person, and the other half online (live). Students will be required to show proof of vaccination to attend.
